Before joining Demeter as a General Partner to raise the fund Green European Tech, a French- German initiative for a European Venture Growth fund tackling transformative technologies for a sustainable future, Yann built and structured the Energy Transition Capital team of BNP Paribas, an initiative following the COP21. During this period, he and his team invested in 10 flagship companies including Stem (energy storage intelligence), Scoop (carpooling services), Ridecell (fleet management software), Metron (energy efficiency for industry), Sunna Design (solar street lighting), and Depsys (smart grid). He analyzed in depth the value chains around renewable intermittency fighting and energy decentralization, shared-electrified-autonomous mobility, hydrogen, energy efficiency, waste management, and structured a large network of CVC, VCs, and corporate investor worldwide.
Before entering the VC scene in 2016, Yann was a Managing Director for a PE investment line, E&C Capital, within BNP Paribas, investing in early stage energy companies worldwide, often backing management teams without assets, hence with due diligences geared towards management experience, organization, skills and capabilities, an essential angle for successful VC investments.
Before E&C Capital, Yann gained experience as a Deputy Head of the Energy & Commodity Structured Finance team for EMEA within BNP Paribas helping energy companies to fund projects and acquisitions. Yann knows well about growth and financing behind growth, would it be internal or external. He is keen on helping portfolio companies to redefine marketing and product positioning, and partnership or sales contract negotiations. He thereby especially enjoys tackling C-level problems and developing product strategies with commercial and technical teams. Yann has a particular interest for customer experience derived from the differences he observed between North American and European tech companies in that domain.
Yann is a General Engineer with a Civil Engineering Master from Nancy School of Mines and holds an MBA from ESCP. His studies and career led him to analyze uncertainty, quantify risk, and optimize decision processes while building simulation models from both a technical and financial angle.
Yann is Member of the European Advisory Board of the Cleantech Group and Member of the Board of Demeter Venture and participated to the development of the Breakthrough Energy Coalition. In addition, in 2016 Yann built and managed the energy transition capital line within BNP Paribas, a key step forward for the bank to fight climate change.
Yann is married with two sons. He is a yoga and Pilates addict, and a jazz pianist. He likes creativity, harmony and improvisation on themes which is the essence of building successful business models in a changing world.
