Josiane Chevalier has a long experience of territorial administration, of the State but also of communities. Before joining the prefectural body, she was notably director of health and solidarity at the general council of Isère.
Her first post as sub-prefect had already taken her to the French Grand Est region in 2002, in the arrondissement of Vitry-le-François. She served as secretary general of the prefecture of Jura, then of the prefecture of Savoie, before heading the office of the prefect of Hauts-de-Seine.
Josiane Chevalier was also secretary general of the Rhône prefecture, regional capital, before being appointed prefect of Tarn in 2012, then of Pyrénées-Orientales and Essonne.
Appointed prefect of the Corsica region in 2018, Josiane Chevalier then joined Strasbourg in February 2020 as prefect of Bas-Rhin, prefect of the eastern defense and security zone and prefect of the Grand Est region.
Born in 1957 in Isère, Josiane Chevalier holds a DESS in social policy management and was trained at the regional administration institute of Lyon.
Josiane Chevalier is officer of the Legion of Honor, officer of the National Order of Merit, Knight of the Order of Academic Palms and Knight of Agricultural Merit.
